The Gagit’s are joined by Russian Girl and Brooklyn Boy for dinner before the long anticipated Leonard Cohen concert. The restaurant was recommended by Skinny Man, who is dedicated to the search for good Sushi since he does not eat meat. The owner Toshi has been here for 8 years since leaving Japan as a master Sushi Chef.We are greeted at the door by Mikkosan who is our server for the night in this friendly local restaurant. We are in a happy mood tonight , so we start with an Atomic Bomb, shown, to keep the happiness flowing.the bomb is a shot glass of Oyster,Tobasco, Accura, topped off by a quail Egg, down the hatch one shot , not so good . lol, need a Kirin to wash it down.
We start the meal with some appetizers, all shown, a really great fresh Seaweed salad ,a noodle salad , a real bomb, salty and not so fresh lettuce , and Tuna with Natto , not even close to the dish as Yakko-san for quality and freshness. We also order some Miso Soup but again the verdict very ordinary.
We are now served the main course , speciality rolls as shown,Eel Crab,Shrimp all included in these big inside out rolls. I rate a restaurant on its Sashimi , so i ask the chef for the best but no Toro at $17.00 . I try the Jack Fish, White Tuna, Squid ,Masago ,and my favorite Conch, i try the Conch first ,and it was too tough and chewy to really eat, after this I really could not enjoy the rest of the Sashimi.I get a bowl of rice on the side to help it taste better and fill me up.
Let the Truth be Told , I was really looking foward to Koume and Toshi after getting high marks from Skinny Man, however, no Toshi tonight and even worse no fresh Sashimi. The chewiness and lack of flavor of the Conch was a sign this not be served and it was to my surprise. I cannot overlook this Conch as well as the salty Noodle salad made it clear to me not to return and even more regretting that I came.I need to go no further to Yakko-San or Oshi Thai for fresh Sashimi and in the future will.
