Thanks to my BrazilianTraveler friend, Alexandre Forbes, I am now officially a regular at Kinoshita and a friend of Chef Murakami,the Master Chef of Kinoshita.I of course know that a seat at the bar is the only place to fully enjoy the meal here and I sit down and I am greeted as a friend not a customer.I am to be served tonight by Alex until Chef Murakami arrives, Alex is not only talented but the only one who speaks English tonight.:) I will show his picture later on with his whole team.
As I am seated I order a Sake,Junmai Ginko to start the night, perfect subtle flavor and chilled by my attentive and smiling server,Aikiko .I am now served a few Japanese Amuse-Bouche while I enjoy my Sake , edamame and the house special, seaweed salad,meatball,tuna in cucumber ,and a warm parsnip,my favorite as well as the seaweed, all shown.I start the night with my favorite soup,Domo Mushi, served in all its splendor and of course included in the broth,shrimp, scallop, and fish,shown above. I am now ready to start the meal:).
The first dish I have been watching Alex prepare for others and I am intrigued, thinly sliced Salmon in Ponzu sauce with crisp vegetable Tempura crunchies on top, texture and flavor perfection,see above.I next taste the Tuna Sahimi,prepared with the Ponzu sauce and a quail egg, shown.I am now sent as a gift by Alex a real specialty , roe of a special Brazialian fish that I cannot remember the name with Daikon,as shown, and to be savored as the taste delicacy it is.Aikiko now brings me a Kirin to finish with rest of the night,no Sake Bomb here Mike.I now toast the quartet of chefs, Kampai ,shown, Alex on the left for there service so far and the service still to come.
Alex now suggests a Sushi delight as shown,Toro ,Hamachi,Octopus,Squid,a Scallop that was perfection,Red Clam, Kobe ,what a taste,and last Eel,sorry Sushi Yasuda this is variety supreme and served with their homemade Soy ,no Wasabi to add allowed.One last dish,as shown, , Beef Katsu so delicately prepared with homemade mustard to enhance the flavor of the Katsu rather than mask it.Alex asks me if I wish dessert,I say no but he prepares a special eel sauce hand roll,above, to give me my sweet for the night,wow.Chef Murakami now arrives after a meeting, I am almost ready to ask him to make me one more dish, my favorite Fois Gras with Tuna, but will wait for next trip.
Let the Truth be Told, Gagit has eaten in Japanese Restaurants from Tokyo ,London, Los Angeles and New York but Sao Paulo is in the same category without question. There are many great Japanese restaurants in Sao Paulo but for my taste Kinoshito is number 1.After Murakami arrived and we high fived ,I told him that Alex did a great job tonight but there is only one Iron Chef Brazil and he is the man,see pic above.
