Location-Food Marathon ,Copenhagen and London
I am not really a dessert person but after meeting our own Rock Star Pastry Chef ,Hedy Goldsmith ,of Michaels Genuine Food and Drink, I now pay attention to all desserts and compare them against Hedy’s All Star creations.We start the dessert Marathon in Copenhagen ,after my trip to Switzerland and then London ,and all desserts are shown above with a brief description in the order they were eaten.
In Copenhagen at Fiskebar;Malt Waffles ,Walnut Ice Cream,Gooseberries, and Meringue and Chocolate 70%-Switzerland ,with Pineapple and with coffee and peanuts served in big Cocoa Shell,both real contenders for a All Star status.
In Copenhagen at Barock’s , Walnut Pie, Chocolate,whipped cream.
In Copenhagen, at Noma ,#1 Restaurant in World;Gamask Dansk and Sorrel,Juresalem artichoke and majoram Apple and Malt. And ,after dinner Snacks,Potato Chips with bitter chocolate and fennel seeds,Flodebolle,Chocolate, yoghurt.and malt cracker,and my favorite, caramel made with smoked marrow in marrow bone, and a look into the pastry kitchen for Hedy ,with the ice cream machines at the ready.
The next stop on our dessert eating marathon was that same night at Geranium, the Chef being a gold Bocuse D Or winner ,but I do not think for his desserts,an Apple Foam with Apple Broth that reminded us of Apple Dishwater, and a combination of white chocolate,iced carrot, and elderberry flowers that was a combination that need not be invented.
The next night we had the pleasure of eating at Kiin Kiin ,a one star Michelin Thai restaurant,only two in the world in the Thai category and the desserts were truly Michelin quality;pineapple Ice cream and ginger with Pop Rocks,it rocked,Mango Ice Cream in coconut shell with Sticky Rice and lastly Pandan Leaves with Ices and many flavors.
On to the United Kingdom and the final lap of our Dessertgasm Marathon.The restaurant that I have been looking forward to is The Sportsman in Seasalter.We enjoy our great meal and are then faced with the menu board as shown. We order ;Lemon Tart with Meringue Ice Cream,Coffee and Chocolate Sundae ,Apple Crumble and Jersey Cream ,and I devour the warm Chocolate Mousse,salted Caramel,and Milk Sorbet,ate to fast for picture
The last stop on our Dessert Marathon is Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the , Mandarin Oriental in London.The desserts;Tipsy Cake,spit roasted pineapple,Brown Bread Ice Cream,salted butter caramel,malted yeast syrup,Poached Rhubarb,rosehips ,rhubarb sorbet ,and Chocolate Bar ,passion fruit jam& ginger ice cream. Amen.
Let the Truth be Told,having enjoyed a Dessert Marathon, starting in Switzerland, then in Denmark, and finally, in the United Kingdom eating in no less than the number 1 restaurant in the world,there is still no place like home and we are lucky to have our own Rock Star Pastry Chef Hedy Goldsmith right here in Miami.
