The article in The Miami Herald last Thursday was an invitation for Gagit and staff to try the best Chicken around, better than more Pollo Tropical, better than  KFC ,need to try this out.The Chain ,s claim to fame from it,s Guatamala base ,is that they offer both Fried and Grilled chicken with there own secret recipe.

We order lunch,45 minute wait for this fresh food. We must try as much as possible so we order:Fried Chicken, Roast Chicken; the sides, special Campero beans, spicy rice, crispy Tostones,Yuca Fries, and the usual mashed potatoes, french fries, sweet plantains, and cole slaw.

The meal arrives $16.99 for a whole chicken with two sides,1/2 chicken with 1 side $6.99.,and in the fried chicken category 8 pieces with two sides for $16.99 , this is all significantly more expensive  than KFC or Pollo Tropical it better be good. The taste test now, the Fried Chicken with a thin tasty batter fabulous compared to the two competitors listed above ,a picture shown of the chicken also. The grilled chicken also very tasty but no better than Publix at $6.99 without the sides ,not worth the wait here.

The sides are great and shown above, Campero beans, spicy pinto beans with vegies and sauce worth the wait, Campero rice ,spicy and tasty perfection, black beans and rice, Yuca Fries and Sweet Plantains a little burned a la Pollo Tropical. The verdict see below:

Let the Truth be Told, the Campero Group is creating a food frenzy for different , Spanish , and not fast food. The food is not fast food because it takes to long to be served. The Spanish influence is great for different flavors especially  the Campero beans and since I like spicy is great. The Chicken is  good but is it too expensive  for the difference , it is better than KFC and Pollo Tropical for quality but is it worth the price. The grilled chicken is no better than Publix, the Fried Chicken second only to Korean Fried Chicken at Bon Chon or other Korean restaurants that serve Fried Chicken with thin batter but more flavor than Campero.I recommended you try it but whether it is a place that justifies many return visits or the price remains to be seen after the novelty wears off, for this Chicken is not a new innovation just  Chicken in a different package.also shown.
