Gagit and Foodiechic attend their 6th Bubble Q, joined by Jenn and for the first time Tennislady,who even table danced on one leg after recovering from tennis destruction by Gagit. It is a cold night but we are second in line and when the door opens we are at the Gagit tasting table for this years event. We have our first glass of Moet and start the tasting .The closest food to our table is Chris Lilly and the Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q of Decatur, Al. The picture above of the equipment of the 10 time Barbeque Champion gives one an indication of the dedication and quality of the ribs he serves. We each get a plate of the ribs ,and although I tasted them in the past, having his ribs first we could really appreciate the best ribs our group has ever experienced,as the meat just fell off the the bone in a taste explosion. We now started the tour of the other taste treats , knowing that these ribs will be tough to beat for the Gagit award.
I go over to Paul Bartoloota of the same name rstaurant in the Wynn of Vegas ,and yes he is serving the same inferior shrimp BBQ that I had in Vegas.Rick Bayless trying again but just average,Marc Sammuelson of Chicago a smoked salmon Taco ,as shown,disaster,Hung Haynh, a top chef, with a barbeque lamb dish,not quite on the mark but he is a cool guy.Tom Neeley of Memphis and family,shown above, filling in for Chris but again no Barbeque Spaghetti. no win.A Duck BBQ dish shown above, and again not my taste followed by Barbequed Salmon shown and then served in Sandwich form,also shown,nice try but not a winner tonight.
Howie Klienberg, a top Chef loser serving BBQ brisket from his new restaurant , but not even worthy to comptete in this contest against the BBQ of Daisey May’s or Hill Country ‘s Brisket and Cucumber shown, and of course Chris Lilly.And there was,Ilan Hall another top Chef, served the most interesting dish of the night, grilled Chicken skin, with a pickle between rye bread,and shown,and we all ate at least two portions raising our chloresterol to the highest level of the night.,lol.We keep on eating and end our BBQ experience with Mr. Top Chef himself Tom Colliccio of Craft ,shown above making his version of BBQ, he acts and cooks more like a celebrity than a BBQ Chef and you can tell by his ribs.We end the night with Misha’s cupcakes who also played celebrity but whose cupcakes were not in the same category of the cupcake leader, Sprinkles.
Let the Truth be Told, this contest was started for Chefs and now caters to celebrities like Tom and fake celebrities like Howie who should not be in this food event.However, it is clear that this event is still the stellar food event in the United States,and with chefs like Chris Lilly , shown above and of course now the Gagit award winner this year,and Ilan, Hung, the Neeleys,among others , our gang will be back again in 2010.
