Cuisine-Upscale Thai & Sushi

Gagit is invited to this new hot spot on Calle Oche by his counsel and friend,Jacquie .A Thai restaurant in Calle Ocho, are you serious in the middle of Little Havana? However, VPE of the Herald did recommend a visit. We enter this newly decorated bright restaurant and are greeted by the owner Bond  in all his charming splendor, see picture above.

I  have to admit at this point, I enjoyed the food so much on this visit, I returned the next two days, once with Fernando, of Casa Sanchez fame, and a return visit with Fernando and AR my Argentian and Brazil companion. Therefore, the food shown is from three days eating rather than one meal.lol.

The first dish of the first meal was  the Softshell Crab, fried crisp but tasty and perfectly crusted, see above, what delightful surprise dish on Calle Ocho. The second appetizer that day was a Bond recommendation, Tuna Calle Ocho, shown above with its perfect blend of Tuna , rice, spices, and Wasabi served with Won Ton crackers to scoop it up. Is this really Calle Ocho or Japan? O by the way , I forgot to mention that we were served a calming but tasty Miso soup on our arrival . Now the mains,Shrimp with Garlic sauce for me, sauteed  with vegetables and mushrooms and perfectly sauteed big  shrimp with rice, also shown, but the picture cannot come close to the wonderful tastes and flavors that so many of the so called top chefs in Miami do not explore . Jacquie, ordered the Masaman Currry, again shown, but not appreciated in a picture,Thai curry sauce with Avocado, potatoes, onions, cashew nuts and the coconut base loaded with chicken, all for $11.95.

We did not anticipate ordering dessert but Bond was kind to send over his grandmothers favorite, little Thai doughnuts and a delightful sweet cream sauce, shown above, Since, this meal was so good I was back the next day eating the Softshell Crab while Fernando enjoyed the Garlic Chicken.

It is now Friday, and we are back and this time we order the house Sake to start  and Sapphoro beer to finish . As our food this day we get our miso soup and then I order the sashimi/sushi combo with Shrimp Tempura, as shown, 4 pieces of california roll,6 pieces of Sashimi, including my favorite, white Tuna,3 pieces of Sushi, and shrimp and vegetable Tempura ,fried to such perfection Morimoto would be proud and all for $10.95. Fernando had the same with tasty  Chicken Terayki,as shown, rather than the Tempura.AR just went  with the Sushi and Sashimi , a simple but  perfect lunch.

Let the Truth be told, ever since Michael Schwartz opened Michael,s Genuine , the other named chefs in Miami  have been trying to catch up to no avail. Although, Mr. Yumm is not ready to take Michaels place , he certainly offers more than the other over priced pretenders with simple , basic, and most importantly flavorful  food. This food is good as it gets in this category of cuisine , not only in Miami but anywhere in The U. S.A.
