The Gagits 6th Bubble Q was definitely the best of them all.We not only met some new friends, Mike and Heidi, and were joined by Jenn of Chez Jenn fame at the best table in the house, the shot of us on Channel 6 proved this point for the record. This event had not only the best choices of food but the DJ was spectacular and rocked the night away.

The event for Gagit was a chance to award the second annual Gagit award for the best BBQ, the first winner Pat Neeley of Memphis won the first one and along with the Gagit award received a Food Network contract. My first food trip was to Neeleys to taste his famous barbeque pasta and ribs, but tonight he had a nice beef and brisket and greens , nice but not up to last years standards so on to the judging. The best real BBQ of this night went to Big Bob Gibson BBQ of Decatur, Georgia , a chopped bbq pork dish , see above, it was cooked to perfection but was not the best dish of the night as the food fest continued to some other top chefs.

The best lamb chop was served by the Blue Door at the Delano, good dish but not original enough for a win. One of my heroes, Dean Fearing ,ex.Mansion, with his own restaurant served a Buffalo taco with spicy sauce, a nice dish but not enough substance to take the prize. A nice pork rib served by Blue Smoke of NY but not out there enough to take the prize. Nice job ,Rick Bayless and nice job Kent Rathburn but not up to Gagits prize. The two contenders are Govind Armstrong of Table 8, Miami who served a tasty original dish of Bbq Braised Beef Cheeks and cheese Grits., wow ,see above for the chef and his dish. The other Gagit contender ,Zac Pelaccio, of the Fatty Crab of NYC., who served his special fatty crab BBQ sandwich with the Bourbon flavored spice sauce, what a zing and certainly a worthy contender for the prize see above for the chef and his dish.

Before,I announce the winners let me address the rock star chefs , who put there smiles first before there dishes of convenience, Gaida, a sausage and pepper sandwich, this is great at Fenway but a BBQ? Al Roker a sausage with wisconsin cheese, Al we love you but as a chef please.Tyler Florence, a calamari plate of some sort , he was too busy posing to even serve it see picture of his dish , Tyler at least serve it.The only celebrity that put her all into her food was Cat Cora but a grilled shrimp dish was not acceptable here, a real BBQ dish should feature meat.Next year celebrities, just smile and dont pretend your cooking.

And the winner, Let the Truth Be Told, the event this year was the best ever, our friends, the music, and the venue cannot be beat and neither could Govind Armstrongs BBQ dish, of Beef Cheeks and Cheese Grits.

This was the best one EVER! I loved it, the food was good, the music was great……This was so worth the price!

I think it was the best one, too! The cheese grits exploded and then melted in your mouth. The Fatty Crab’s ground brisket combined with rendered fat back made the lightest, yummiest–but not greasy–”burger” I’ve ever had. Couldn’t finish the spiced bourbon though because with all the Champage, it would have been the end of the night for me!

    Is it February yet?
