Gagit has never reviewed a wine seperately before but after receiving a generous gift of this award winning wine,Gagit must give this wine its due.The wine ,shown above, produced in the Famatina Valley of Argentina , is a real test of the art of blending, this is the cornerstone of the La Puerta Gran Reserva. This wine is crafted from the premium grapes of the famatina Valley soils. It is a blend of Malbec(60%),Syrah(23%) and Bonarda(17%) to create this smooth and approachable “big red”.True to the winemakers philosophy, the Gran Reserva is a small lot production of the highest quality produced only in the best vintages.
The bottle we are drinking is#4024 out of 6931 produced and tonight we are drinking it at Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink ,one of the Gagit.s favorite restaurants and with a menu to really enhance the drinking of the wine. The perfect food for the perfect wine is shown above, Pork Samosos in Phylo with Mango sauce, Pig Ear salad, and the perfect Duck Confit. As the food was eaten, the wine was drunk, glass by glass as shown. As the wine opened, the bouquet of the blend really bloomed. The richness of the Bonarda, the subtle flavors of the Syrah, and of course natural richness of the Malbec all in one glass ,wow.
Let the Truth be Told, Gagit has had Hall of Fame Dishes:appetizers , mains, and desserts, but never a wine until now.Gran Reserva La Puerta 2005 is the first inductee and with it a five star rating.
