One of Gagit,s rules is not to eat at Hotel were he stays but in this case Hurricane Omar was on it,s way so the rule was broken, and what a pleasant surprise and an even better review.I hate to have to call a cart to take to dinner but at this hotel it is a must. The driver, pleasant smile and all, takes me into the usual boring hotel dining room but wait it is not as I expected, a warm , cozy,semi-noisy,room with a Sushi Bar was in front of me. I go to the Bar and am greeted by the Sushi chef Sam, short for Sam, and offered a drink by at least two friendly waiters. This is not the usual Hotel service but I guess this is a Ritz.
My Kirin Ichiban arrives as I study the Asian Bistro menu. I start out with a salad that was not only fantastic but unusual, the Kimchee Spiced Cucumber Salad ,shown above . The Kimchee sauce and the cucumbers with onions is a definite dish for the Gagit Hall of Fame and for $8.00,what a bargain.
Another beer and my main course arrives,Kobe Beef Sliders, Terriyaki, bleu and chedder cheese, again shown above. These sliders were as good as it gets, especially for only $18.00 and I can honestly say I have had none better. As I was waiting for the sliders I asked Sam about the peppers in the Sushi case. He tells me they are great for roasting and to my surprise roasted a good portion of these Sishito which really had a nice bite even though they are of the sweet variety. The peppers ,shown above, given to me and the other bar patrons were a perfect way to end the night. This guy Sam gets it.
Let the Truth be Told,I have stayed at many Ritz Carlton,s and the only words I would say about the food is overpriced and overrated. After this dinner at the Great Bay Lounge ,I can only say this Ritz is underpriced and underated ,shhh, please do not tell them this or they might revert to all other Ritz,s.
