The Gagit’s visit this Hallendale landmark, lol ,twice with their friends the Detroitniks,to enjoy two of our favorite dishes. The first visit is on a Thursday night when the speciality of the night is Corned Beef and Cabbage,as shown above . The restaurant more like a diner has been a landmark of confort food for many years , it seems like 1892 after looking at the furnishings and the age of the customers and waiters. When we enter throught the back room,we are greeted by the chef Tony who I think has been there from the beginning. Lady Anne, has a real good relationship with Tony so we get the best table in the house,a booth that barely has room for my stomach. The lovely made up waitress, Phyliss, age hard to guess with all the make up knows we came for the Corned Beef and serves it in a flash. This is really a dish for two but I finish it all as the others bring some home for another meal. The juiciness and flavor of the Corned Beef were perfect, the potatoes, carrots, and cabbage cooked to perfection. We pass on dessert or coffee since the booth is now to tight for me after the Corned Beef. The check is paid , the Corned Beef $10.95 ,we walk out not only enjoying the food but feeling we stole the food at that price.
Our next visit on a Wednesday night is for Stuffed Pepper and is this a sight to behold, see above. Yes, I ate the whole thing the Pepper cooked to juicy perfection, the stuffing questionable combination of meat?, rice, and bread crumbs but still tasty, smothered in a rich tomato sauce. This dish also comes with mashed potatoes and a vegetable, I pass on these and finish the whole Pepper, Foodiechic and King Henry get the sides and bring half the pepper home.
Lady Anne not into peppers tonight so orders a fresh half turkey sandwich as shown, for less than $5 bucks. Fresh Turkey is available everyday with stuffing and the fixins if so desired. For the holidays, the Gagit’s only order there Turkey from Lois the owner and it is not only better than Epicure, Moes, or Turnberry, and Lois delivers it herself personnely to your car.
Let the Truth be Told, Nick’s is not the place I really enjoy eating at for the holidays or even to often, but the food cannot be duplicated for quality, portions, taste, and of the course the price. The early bird for $6.95 , as shown above, try to beat that for quality food. However, to really enjoy this food, I have Foodiechic bring it home and serve it as home cooked, you will never know the difference. lol.
