Sage Oyster Bar

  • Location-2000 Harrison Street, Hollywood, Florida
  • Cuisine-Seafood and Hollywood French

The Gagits  were very excited to hear that Sage of Fort Lauderdale was opening in the space of the failed restaurants Michaels Kitchen and Fluvios. Gagit was hoping that the Sage ownership would duplicate the french flavor , intimacy, and super service of the original Sage. After one night at Sage Oyster Bar , Gagit and guests felt they were at the revival of Kefi.

We are joined at Sage by two of our favorite couples  and since there was a party of six we were seated in the much less noisy and more comfortable party room.  Unfortunately, the waiter in this room was Melvyn the turkey buzzard from Hollywood,Fl.We were no sooner seated when Melvyn was ready to take our order, hey Melvyn we want drinks first and want to relax. He takes our drink orders, various Vodka drinks tonight and when he returns he is ready to take our order, hey Melvin gives us time to enjoy the drinks, after one sip he is swooping again when we tell him we will call him when  we are ready to order. We are now ready and he swoops in with his Hollywood  French, Craps instead of Crepes ,and even worse butchering of the French menu ,so much for the great French flavor of the original Sage that we always enjoy.

Foodiechic, Ex Oil Baroness and I order the Mussels we always enjoyed at Sage and  the Buzzard tells us the Chef does not recommend the Mussels tonight since they are not fresh, yikes, so much for Mussels, Oysters our any Raw Seafood. The Chef should have told the staff they are out of Mussels not they are not fresh. We then regroup and I order along with Lovely Lilly and Oil  Baroness starters of Crabcake, the others order salads  of Endive while Big John orders the Tomato and Mozzerella salad. O yes, I  ask Melvyn if there are any specials and in his Hollywood French, lol mispronounces every dish, yet does not tell us that the specials are basically double in price than most mains, $34.00

The starters are served, the Crabcakes served, ice cold and returned . The Tomato and Mozzerella  salad was a disgrace to its Italian  backround, unfortunately it was dark in the restaurant and my camera could not really show how disgraceful this dish was. Unfortunately, this was the good part of the meal, lol

Since the Mussels were not available tonight, I was served Meatloaf with Mash Potatoes along with Big John, unfortunately the Mash Potatoes were rewarmed French Fries, this would never happened at the gourmet French restaurant in Hallendale Nicks, were they serve you what you order.Lovely Lilly had a undercooked order of Salmon since she ordered it well done, Racecardriver a nice Coq Au Vin and the other girls split a Steak Au Poivre with meat that Melvyn tells us is not from the United States ,the best place for meat, hello.Foodiechics steak medium rare was of course overcooked but what else could be expected tonight. Now the Buzzard does his thing, he starts taking plates when 4 people at the table are still eating, go away Buzzard.Next comes a Buzzard in training to try to get our plates with 2 people still eating, go away Buzzard in training.

Desserts on the house, and even for free they were not up to the standard of any French restaurant outside of Hollywood, Florida .The check with 18% added for the Buzzard , luckily the desserts were free and the check was a reasonable $40.00 a person for gourmet French Cuisine, o by the way for $15.99 at Nicks we could enjoy dinner without Buzzards.

Let the Truth Be Told, Gagit and Foodiechic really have enjoyed Sage of Fort Lauderdale and will continue to visit the restaurant when a French fix is desired. However,as far as Sage Oyster Bar is concerned the only comparison is Kefi of Aventura, which lasted one year to long  and Gagit is looking foward to the next restaurant that opens in this spot, who knows Nicks might be the only restaurant that can survive in this location.
