The Gagit,s are in the Big Apple for Harold’s of Tulsa first solo performance at the famous or infamous Cabaret Theater. Spitzer’s was recommended to us by Fisherman Jr. on our last trip to New York. We pullup to the restaurant on the lower east side and have to push inside the smoking crowd outside to get in the door. Once inside ,we are overwhelmed by the crowded and noisy main room as we try to talk to the hostess at the door.
Since, she sees we are probably someones grandparents here,we are led to the less crowded and less noisy back room and intrusted to Michael our server for the night. This is the place for beer,40 world class brews on tap.I once had Old Speckeled Hen and it is here, the best Pale Ale England has to offer. As we wait for the Ale we decide on our choice for food . Michael returns and we place our order with a starter of Cuss’ Famous Pickles, an East Side favorite since 1920. These pickles were my father,s favorites ,but I prefer full sours rather than these half sours.
Another beer and our mains arrive, the house special for me,Hickory Short Rib Burger medium rare with the full variety of toppings, hickory sauce,BBQ onions ,lettuce , tomatoes,Grafton Chedder, Applewood -smoked Bacon, and of course a fried Egg ,shown of course. This is the dish that I make sure I go to Dr. Angaston ,for without medication this dish might kill you.One taste and this Burger enters the Gagit Hall of Fame. Foodiechic is served the Beef Sliders, with Bacon and tomatoes as shown. This dish was good but rather ordinary. The surprise dish of the night was a side of Aspergus Spears,Sesame-Panko crusted, with Citrus dipping sauce, shown above also. This dish was not good ,not great, but fabulous in taste, texture, and appearance. We did not leave one bite of the Asperagus spears and I really do not like asperagus.
Let the Truth Be Told, Fisherman Jr. was right on with this choice. If you need to go to a noisy, crowded, popular Gastropub for high cholesterol and great beer ,this is the place and I could not enjoy my foodie life without this type of real food and real people experiences. Thanks , Jr.
