The Gagit’s are joined by Queen E and Mum on their latest trip from their castle in the UK.We are not only interested in going to Trulucks for their Seafood choices but also the $35.00 menu.We arrive on time and are seated in 10 minutes in this crowded busy restaurant. We are seated and introduced to our server James, shown above, who can make or break the dining experience. In James case, he really makes our dining a pleasurable experience. We start out by ordering a very nice Turley Zinfadel from the wide selection of very reasonably priced wines. We are also served the complimentary water, really now, imagine free tap water.
We taste the wine, toast the Quuen and get ready to order dinner.James is very helpful as we steady the menu, especially by saying yes to everyone of substitute requests. For starters, Mum request the side Asperagus,no problem,Queen E has the Caesar , Foodiechic and I, the Wedge, roquefort and bacon dressing very fresh, shown above, even with anchovies for Foodiechic no problem for James.
We are now ready for our mains,Mum gets the Halibut , only $25.00 here compared to $42.00 at Oceanaire, the halibut was served grilled and served with Asperagus Bisque, spring vegetables ,and Lobster Bisque,Mum finished every bite so it must have been good.Queen E ordered the Tuna Nicoise, shown above , really Sushi grade Tuna, crusted in Fennel Pollen, and served with green bean salad, olive tapenade, and olive oil smashed potaoes. A good dish and well worth the $24.00. Foodiechic and I had both had the Artic Char just grilled but a little undercooked. We both received sides with this dish, Foodie asperagus and I asked for and received by James , Crab Fried Rice, a real wow side with veggies mixed in.
Now , James clears the plates when all are finished, a refreshing change from most Florida restaurants and brings the dessert cart. I was listening instead of taking pictures but it did have varied 8 desserts ,all that could serve two to four.We choose the Carrot Cake for all to share, see size. James took the pleasure of pouring Butterscotch sauce and spreading Pecans over the cake. However, we thought that it made the cake to sweet to really taste the carrot flavor.
Let the Truth be Told , Trulucks has much to offer, nice facility, live music at the bar , strong service oriented servers, thanks James, and most importantly fresh seafood. I really feel they do to much by smothering so many of the fish choices with sauces that only raise the price rather than enhance the fish. In fact, on the $35.00 special menu, if you just want the grilled fish it is not worth ordering the special menu , since the dessert can be split for 4. However, I felt that being in Trulucks was just like dining in the same sterile character as Capital Grill, and the many Steak or Seafood restaurants that just copy each other to compete for the same customer who feel being comfortable is more important than tasting new foods or different executions, not for the the Gagit’s., one visit here is enough.
